Hikaru Shidou has three brothers that she lives with, however her father ran away when she was born because he said "he was on a journey for further enlightenment." So, Hikaru had to grow up with her three brothers, and so they turned her in to quite a 'boyish' little girl! She is highly trained in many martial arts, and this is partially the cause of her brothers' influences! In fact, she is so into Japanese sports that her family lives in a dojo, or a Japanese gym.

The characters that make up her name "Hikaru" are actually the characters that stand for "fire", which is as well her magical element! Her spells include fire arrow (honou no), and red lightning (akai inazuma). She is by far the strongest Magic knight (strength wise that is...) because of her extensive training in martial arts she has been able to strengthen herself a lot.
She has th magic element of fire!

Hikaru, though, comes from a 'normal' Japanese school. Meaning that she is not really that smart. ^^;;;;; Hikaru, however _is_ rather short, and when she stands beside Umi and Fuu you can really see how short she is! When they first met, Umi and Fuu commented on her height rather rudely! ^^ She especially loves doing Japanese kendo and she is a very good sword handler. All the Magic Knights are relatively thin, and this is no exception for Hikaru. When Hikaru grows up, she hopes to become a vet! In fact she has a dog name Hikari who she loves a lot! Right after she meets Fuu at Tokyo Tower the three of them (including Umi) are transported to Cephiro, the magical land in which their destiny awaits them! She also has a red sword that is wider than Fuu's but it is shorter than Fuu's, as you can see in the picture above on the left.

Hikaru is also kind of the leader of the trio, but Umi and Fuu are just as capable of leading.

Drool: My favourite scene from the first anime series is actually almost any scene where she is fighting because I just love how agile she is! Ohh, so cool!

Hikaru's Machine God, or Machine is sort of a weird creature in my books. It's like a cross between a lion and a wolf, but I don't know how to draw it so sorry there isn't an image of Rayearth here.
